It is important for you to report the exact error message in its
entirety.

It would also be helpful to know what version (and Service Pack) of
Windows you have. How long has this problem been occurring? Do you
recall doing anything in particular right around that time?

Hi Oli,
AS Dave mentioned you need to elaborate more on your System Version/Make and
Model.
This can happen if these are true:
1- Loose Ribbon Wire/connectors/Cable from/To the Mobo
2- Left CD/Floppy in the CD-ROM/Floppy Drive
3- The BIOS outdated or corrupted or the settings been changed
4- Bad HDD and you need to test to see if the HDD health/Boot sectors is
intact and consistent
