When I startup Outlook XP/2002, I get the following error which terminates
outlook.
If I restart Outlook again, it works fine, until I close my XP logon session
and restart again.

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library dialogue window
Runtime Error!
Program c:\PROGR~1\MICROS~2\Office10\Outlook.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Following an HDD failure and replacement (>137Gb) I have installed Norton
Internet Security 2005, replacing 2003.

When I run with just the single default Outlook.pst file, I did not get this
error.
After I opened one of my transferred .pst file and changed emails delivery
to this previous Outlook XP/2002 file, I started to get this error on
starting Outlook up.

Reading previous posts, I have tried to remove the NIS Spam COM add-in, but
it keeps reappearing when I restart Outlook.

Other info;
XP home with SP2 and all recent critical updates applied, plus GDI+Detection Tool, Media Player 10, .Net 1.1 SP1, Windows Media Content.
Office XP SP3.

Many thanks in anticipation of any help and advice given.

Andreas,
thank you for your reply and aplogies for my very late response.

I have already tried deactivating the Add-ins from Outlook many times but
they keep reappearing for Norton's Anti-Spam component within NIS 2005.

I also tried Start>Run "outlook /safe" before deactiviting-deleting the
add-ins. Inititially they were deleted and then they reappeared.

Finally, I found another thread which worked for me.

This required renaming;
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Antispam\msouplug.dll

From msouplug.dll to msouplug.dll.old

I am about to contact Symantec as to why their product which is stated as
compatible with Outlook XP/2002 has this issue and there is nothing in their
knowledge base which refers to it, nor a workaround either.

Hope this posting helps someone else with the same problem as I have faced,
and I thank you for your help as well.

Cheers, Danny

I contacted Symantec helpdesk and got this reply:
"Symantec is aware of this issue, and there is no solution at thi
time. We will continue to track this issue, and our online knowledg
base will be updated if new information becomes available or a solutio
is found."

They recommended to uninstall NIS2005, Update windows and re-install.

Pretty hopeless, so I used your DLL renaming and that helped
