I went to the xp site and downloaded several ntoskrnl.exe files to hav different start up screens. I have several when I replace the ntoskrnl.exe file it causes the computer to constantaly reboot. What could be wrong with the file and how do I fix it? Also the site showed how to make my own startup screens. It told me to download Jasc Paintshop 7.0 to load the pallet I need to edit the bitmap picture. I did this but still am unsure of what I am doing. I don't know how to move or resize the pictures that the file uses.

ntoskrnl is the operating system kernel - the most low level part of the
operating system that there is. You aren't just changing the startup screen,
you are changing the fundamentals of how the operating system works (and
hoping that the startup screen is the only thing that they changed). That is
probably why you are getting blue screens.
