Startup screen

I am trying to read some information on the black dos startup screen. But
when the machine is starting it flashes on and then gone so fast I can't get
it to pause. Is there anything I can do to make it show longer? Or another
way to view what is on that screen?
E-Machine Athlon XP 1600+ with XP prof.

You can use the pause key on the keyboard. Hit the screen when you get the
blank screen. At the first time you may not be able to pause the screen but
try one more time you will get

I have tried this about 30 times, it flashes too fast. I get it to pause but
the screen is gone already.
