The startup screen my desktop (not used since April 09 when it was OK) keeps
recycling. I have tried to get into it via safe mode and last known
configuration but it still keeps cycling, - BUT -
an internal CD drive that I hadn't been able to open for 3-4 years has
suddenly come alive again. I'm using Windows XP Professional with all the
updates up to April 09
Any suggestions & advice would really be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi "Bugsy",

What XP Service Pack level? SP2? SP3? What make and model of computer. When
you tried to get into it via safe mode, did you at least get to the Advanced
Options menu where Safe Mode is one of the options? You need to disable the
automatic restart on error. If you get at BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) "stop"
message, press your Pause/Break key to freeze it so you can write down any
text that LOOKS_LIKE_THIS, and complete error codes and instructions, and
report back here with that information.

HTH. (Hope This Helps. :)
