I've posted a couple of times inside a thread recently and got no
response. So I am going to start a thread.
In start\run <type in "msconfig"> then in that "startup" menu is
listed 3rd party stuff (?? Or is some of it Windows components? (I
thought all Windows components are in control panel\add-remove\windows
components)
I ask, because I have a lot memory being taken at boot up, and I
believe that there are commands in that startup menu that are starting
stuff I do not need, so i justwant to check it out.. I do recognize
some of what is starting, which is related to some stuff I have
installed, but I don't others.
Does anyone recognize the following. I'd like to disable some of them
from starting at boot up. A real problem is that XP does not show the
complete path to the folder where this stuff is located. Anyway,
here:
NvCpl, nwiz, zHotkey, EngUtil, RxMon, Shwicon2k, pptd40nt,
IndexSearch, ccApp, AcctMgr, ISStart, LogiTrav, GhostStartTrayApp,
Sethook, , (that's a complete blank space for a filename),
realsched, dumprep 0 -k, qttask, mxyjxxn, winampa, DrgToDsc,
mswsoemon, WALLPA~1, exec, Leechget, Restore desktop
(listed twice), mwsmoemon, MyWebSearch Ema.., SamrtUI,
MyWebSearch Ema..
myxjxxn? a blank space? pptd40nt? other weirs sounding stuff. And
exec? Exec loads the Juno task bar icon I think. I only have Juno
in case my cable goes down. I don't need a Juno icon in the task bar.
Is some of this stuff just loading configurations and not taking up a
lot of memory? When I unchecked everything there and rebooted (it
said it was in a test mode) I saved about 70 or 80 MBs I believe.
And I see in start\run\msconfig\services (services is right next to
startup) that "Windows Updates" is running, even though I have shut it
off and it is not working. I always check once in a while, and I
don't need auto-checking stuff to be on (same goes for my anti-virus &
firewall auto-check - it is shut off).
Any input will be appreciated. I have already disabled some of the
windows components that are mostly related to networking, which I
don't do. (In case you are interested that, check out what windows
components you can disable or set to manual at:
