When rebooting a new win xp home computer with the latest MSAS, we get a
message about a startup program wanting to start.

It says:

Name <blank>
Path: c:\

So, without identifying a name and basically no path, what are we do to?
Block, or allow?

Thanks.

I would allow it. I suspect this is a bug--are you starting the machine
with a limited user signed in?

Once you get the machine up and running update Microsoft Antispyware, and
your antivirus app, and do full scans with each, just in case. It is
embarassingly true that sometimes new hardware comes with a virus already in
place.

It is a new computer, and the ms antispyware was just downloaded three days
ago, and updated then.

Antivirus is new and current definitions.

The user is the default "user" account with admin rights that is
automatically created upon first starting up the new OS on a new computer.

I'm not sure what's creating the prompt, but I'd proceed as I
recommended--lets assume this is a bug in the beta program, but double check
by running scans with both antispyware and antivirus.
