Dear All,

I have recently reinstalled an old Pentium III 550 with Microsoft Windows XP
Professional. The hardware is as follows:

Micro-Star International Co., Ltd MS-6156 (i440BX)
128MB SDRAM 100
Fujitsu MPE3136AT [Hard Drive] (13.66GB)
NVidia Vanta Graphic Card
Creative AudioPCI (on board)

Windows XP Professional is running the latest service pack with all the
hotfixes and patches applied. I accept the hardware isnt great. However this
does not justify the time it takes for Windows XP Professional load. Windows
XP Professional begins to load and then seems to hangs for exactly 180
seconds before booting into the login screen. Can anyone please shead some
light on what is happening and how to resolve the situation?

Many Thanks,

John Barwell

time to spend a few nickels for a new PC don't ya' think......children have
better boxes...

This is a client's PC and he does not have disposal income for a new PC. Do
you know what the problem is or are you just one of those sad people who
write sarcastic comments?

I have seen something like this happen and I removed all the printers from
the printers area under control panel. Then I removed any referance to any
of those printers in the registry. For some reason it takes forever for the
printers to load while booting up. Its worth a shot anyway..

Good Luck! Thanks I hope this helps

I'm fighting a similar issue for a client. He too only has 128M of ram
albeit 8M is being used for on-board vide. As near I can tell, 128M doesn't
cut it with all the latest service packs etc. My daughter has some of my old
hardware that consists of a K6/2-400 with 256M and it doesn't have that
issue. Since this is a 440BX you should be able to pick up an additional
128M of memory for around $60US. (Hmmm. Wasn't until I looked that I realzed
the price of SDRam was on the rise... )
