I have a computer that says press tab to enter post or del to enter setup on
start-up, this happens on a regular basis, where do I start troubleshooting,
it does eventually boot into windows.

Motherboard is a ASUS P5VDC-MX

Thanks

In that case, you have a choice between checking the battery is
providing sufficient voltage or invoking warranty.

invoking warranty for motherboard?

If the CMOS won't keep BIOS settings with a fresh battery, I suspect
there is something wrong with it. The vendor should exchange for a good one.

Thanks, I'll try a new battery in it first.

Finally looked at this computer and changed the battery, still the same,
then I changed the motherboard and still the same.

The actual message screen I am getting is
Press Del to run setup, Press TAB to display BIOS Post Message
After about 10 seconds it continues the boot process into windows. Had
reports from the customer that a couple of times it would take forever.

Ok, has anyone gone into the BIOS and cleared the ESCD, and forced a
refresh? It sounds like it is "re-identifing" something, and won't
continue till it "figures it out" so to speak. If after a clear and
refresh, I would disconnect everything but RAM, Video and Harddrive and
then start adding back till I found the troublesome hardware.
