For several weeks, my system is hard to start. When I press the power
button, I can here thing spinning and the mb light comes on. But
that's it. After 2 or 3 more tries, it boots up fine. The lights on
the cd-roms blink so that's how I can tell it's going to boot. Once it
does it absolutely runs fine the whole day. Warm boots are always fine
too. Kinda reminds me of an old car on a cold day. Any suggestions?
Anything I can check? It's a home built system. Leadtek mb, 1.5 gh,
512 ram, ATI video with 256mb., win xp pro.

Make and model of power supply?

Power is a common culprit, though a dying motherboard is
another possible cause. Less likely anything else but
better to focus on more likely causes than be diverted on
tangents, initially.

If it's a marginal capacity PSU or generic, try another one.
If not, check voltage readings. Inspect the motherboard for
vented capacitors, check the cards, cables, memory, etc.

In your case, voltages - the numbers - from red, orange,
yellow, and purple wires (power supply to motherboard) would
be informative. Would be the first facts to provide so that
useful responses can be obtained.
