Hi,

I have just changed by cd burner drive with a dvd burner. Then I was trying
to install Nero software that came with it. It wouldn't install, saying path
E:\ didn't exist or something like that. Knowing that the burner was on a D
drive I thought I change name of drive to E to see what happens. It seemed to
work at first. The installation process progressed but very slow. Then toward
the end the computer froze. I couldn't even open the task bar. I switched it
off then tried restarting, but gogot an error message saying windows couldn't
start because it may have not sut down properly or of some changes made etc.
It gave me options of retatring in safe mode or in last configuration in had
worked fine etc... But I couldn't choose any of those options everytime I
tried it kept freezing.

Somehow I managed to get past that, got windows to start only to freeze
again. Now it just keeps freezing at various stages ie startup or shortly
after.

I hope someone can help me to fiz this problem. Thanks.

It's possible the change of burners was only the last straw in a problem
that had been coming eventually. It sounds like your hard drive has failed.
There is diagnostic software to check that, available from all the major
hard drive maker's web sites.

You can try starting from an install cd, and using the "Recovery Console
Prompt" option to run the command 'chkdsk /r' to try to fix the drive, too.
