Does anyone have any views or experience of Startup Mechanic from
http://www.startupmechanic.com/

I downloaded and ran it today. It identified ctfmon.exe as a
CoolWebSearch parasite. There may well be such a parasite, but in
this case ctfmon.exe is a valid Windows System file.

It also identified timesync.exe as a malicious file. In this case,
it's the executable of the program I use to keep my clock time
accurate, a valid freeware program by Luzius Schneider.

In both cases it recommends that these programs MUST be disabled.

In addition, on my system, ctfmon.exe is already disabled by another
startup proram, as are some other services that I might need
occasionally. This isn't recognised by Startup Mechanic.

For these reasons, I've uninstalled it.

And it install some liveupdate, in the sink with it.

Haven't looked at it but BillP's WinPatrol is so much better.

I haven't looked at it either ......... but I am not as clever as Andy
Licious. I DON'T know which is 'so much better'. Maybe I will have an
opinion if, and only if, I actually look at them both. <g>
