hi i learnt from you that startup cop is a very good startup manager.
i downloaed and tried and liked it very much.
however when i upgrade my computer from win2000 to winxp , i found that
startup cop seems doesn't work well under winxp.
so could you be kind enough to advise me one freeware as startup manager(so
to control not so many rush when my window starts) under winxp?
thanks for your suggestion.
regards,
teddyli.

Like to help you, but not at home now; I have something called code starter
(I'm using xp home) which is pretty neat; allows you to see what's started
up both from the start menu and registry; also allows you to add entries
easily (haven't found one yet that did this); also allows you to uncheck
them (and they stay there). I checked code starter through google and a
couple of other things just now but don't find it. If someone hasn't
satisfied your request by the time I get home tonight, I'll reply then.

Codestuff Starter shows starup items plus startup processes like Task
Manager.

Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel

There ya go, YK gave the link I was looking for. Code Stuff Starter is a
great app. :)

Startup Cop is a "30-days limited trial" shareware application. Try
googling for "startup manager xp freeware".

There might be two applications of the same name, see
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,2097,00.asp
these utilitys have been previously free just not to
distribute. You can't download it there anymore.

I like Mike Lin's startup control panel (standalone .exe version),
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
it's just straightforward, try it on XP it doesn't take long to
download and needs no installer.

Cite?

It was/is one of the PC Magazine free utilities. Granted, now it's not
freeware because it costs to register for those utilities (unless you
can find them elsewhere on the net, which is sometimes possible), so
they're fairly softwara non grata for alt.comp.freeware. But that
doesn't make them trialware.
