Hi, whenever i boot up my pc it brings me to the login
screen, i click my account then it takes me to my
desktop, the startup tune doesnt play until i wait
approx. 2-3minutes and through that time i cant do
anything at all until that tune plays, then i can finally
do things. And also whenever i try to open up Paint it
takes forever to open. One more thing, just out of
curiosity when that tune plays, a command prompt popsup
for a few seconds and its titles CARPSERV.EXE, is that a
required startup application, or may i disable it? Help
would be much appreciated.
Thx. Aaron

There was a recent update that applied only to laptops with regard to
CARPSERV.EXE. If this is a desktop PC, if you don't see the update in
Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, try using System Restore to take you
back to a time prior to when this began.

If the hang at the desktop predated all of this or has been a constant
issue:
See if any of the following applies:

Do you have a broadband connection, if yes, try the following courtesy of
MVP Terri Stratton:
NIC AND SLOW LOADING DESKTOP -

If you're running a DSL modem and have a LAN or high speed connection, try
changing the properties of it.

Go to start> connect to> show all connections>right click on Local Area
connection>scroll down and click on Properties.

Highlight "Internet protocol (TCP/IP)"

Click on properties button>click on the "use the following IP address" radio
button.

Add the following.

IP address:192.168.0.1 (or any in the accepted range)

Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0

Some connections won't allow this, so if you can't get a connection, remove
it.

If the above doesn't apply but you are on a network, go to Start\All
Programs\Accessories and the Command Prompt. At the prompt type "ipconfig"
without the quotes and press enter. Make note of the numbers.

Go to Start\Connect To, select "Show all connections" and select Local Area
Connection. Right click and select properties. Select "Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP)" and click properties, select "Use the following IP address" and
input the appropriate numbers you found earlier. When you exit that box, the
Subnet Mask numbers should input automatically.

Reboot and see if that resolves the issue.

I also found some virus references with regard to CARPSERVE.EXE, only that
it was indicated as an effected file so you might also want to make sure
your antivirus application is up to date and run a full virus scan on your
system.
