startup hangs at "applying computer settings"?

When I turn my networked computer on, it takes from 5 to 10 minutes for it to
boot up (windows XP Pro). It gets past the applying network connections, but
stalls at "applying computer settings" Some changes were made using the
administrator login, but I'm not sure which change could have caused this.
Any suggestions of what I could change back so it starts up in a normal
amount of time. (We don't really have a "network administrator" so suggesting
I talk to them won't reall help!)

Thanks in advance!

Are you on a domain?

I don't think so. I was trying to find something to help my plotter, and
updated Norton Antivirus. Those are the two things I remember doing under
Admin. But I must have changed some other setting, because the computer used
to start up fine (taking about 1 minute).

Lara:

If you are on a Windows 2000 or 2003 domain, logons usually take a long time
if the DNS server addresses are not correct. Check your DNS settings by
typing IPCONFIG /ALL in the command prompt. Do the same on another computer
that is working fine and compare the settings. Check the help system to
learn how to change the DNS server settings if that needs to be done.

Martin
