Startup Folder - How To Add Programs To It?

This should be simple. It was before XP. How in the devil do you add
programs to the Startup Folder in Start/All Programs?

Simply drag a shortcut or create a new shortcut for an application and place
it here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Ramesh\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup (For ALL
users on the PC)

Hi, Dick.

Are you actually trying to add files to your Startup folder? Or are you
trying to figure out why some programs that are not there nevertheless start
automatically?

Msconfig.exe (from the Run prompt) will let you detect files that start from
places other than the Startup file. You can use RegEdit to examine the
contents of the various Run keys.

Let us know what you are trying to do and we probably can help you do it.

Dick,

Placing programs in startup folder (C:\Documents and
Settings\<<Username>>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) makes the shortcut run at
Windows Startup everytime you login.

If you are referring to adding application in the ALL programs menu, add the
shortcuts here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Ramesh\Start Menu\Programs

by default, windows explorer, media player, remote assistance are listed
there. Add your favorite application shortcut there. Right-click new >
shortcut.

I looked at that, but there are only two files in there. One is
desktop.ini, and the other is an office startup. Where are all the
other programs in my startup folder?

But he probably doesn't have a username "Ramesh" on his computer. He
probably wants to use

C:\Documents and Settings\Dick\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

or whatever his username is.

Yes. I want to add a new program (executable) to the Startup folder
so it will start when I boot the computer. When you install a
program, it often puts a startup file in that folder. I want to do it
manually.
