If you have the CD,
Boot to the BIOS and change the boot order to CD first instead of Floppy
Power Down
Boot with the CD, choose install, and when the prompt comes up, choose "Repair"
After you have finished, shutdown.
Boot into Safe Mode with a command prompt,
"type" SFE /SCANNOW
when complete
"type" CHKDSK /F
when complete see if you can boot up on it's own.
If so, go to Symantec online virus scan
http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
click on ,"test your exposure" at Security Check
choose Virus scan
Let it run through the whole thing
Write down the names and files it finds (or print them)
Go to Google
Enter these names and/or files, find the virus writeup by Symantec
Print it
Do everything it says EXACTLY in the order it says.
Hopefully you can clean it up.
Go to
www.spychecker.com
Get AVG antivirus
Get Zone Alarm firewall
Get Ad-aware
Get SpyBot S&D
Install the antivirus, get the most current definitions
Run a virus scan to check it up adn running
Install Zone Alarm with default settings, and read the Tutorial
Reboot, and make sure the firewall is running.
Install Ad-aware
Install SpyBot S&D (read this carefully)don't gocheck marking everything; when it
deletes, it's gone.
Sounds like overkill???????
NOT it's underkill... If this all doesn't work you better get the data off, the
best way you can.
Gonna be a fresh Install

Hello,
My wife's computer recently encountered a virus (Regal, I think) that has brought
down her computer. She doesn't have access to her startup disc and therefore
can't reinstall Windows 2000. Does anyone have a startup file you are willing to
send to me as a file, or what do you suggest? I have no idea how to proceed
presently. "Start" is no longer present on the taskbar. Thanks, Thomas
