I had a small problem with startup programs. I have seven tray programs
launched during login to XP. Some are launched from the registry, some are
launched from Startup.

For some reason I was having problems with PC Magazine's Robotype. At first
it launched from Startup, but it would throw up an error message and take
out the programs which followed it. I hacked it to start from the registry
and for a while that seemed better, but it would still hang.

So I did a web search for a freeware program which would delay the launch of
Robotype. I reasoned that too many things were happening at once and
Robotype had a weakness which made it difficult to launch during the busy
moments after login, when a whole shitload of stuff was going on.

I found several candidates and I settled on Startup Delayer. It allows you
to delay-launch any or all startup programs at variable periods, or you can
ask it to space them for you. So far it works for me. Robotype starts fine.

I think these guys may have a few other freeware offerings too, I didn't
look too closely. During my travels I did find that it's possible to delay
launch with good old batch files, and I'm sure the same is true of WSH
scripts.

I been using Start up delayer for a few years now, it is a good piece of
software, it allows me to start my firewall and virus checker before any
other software and it also stops the hard drive going mad on boot up.

Same here. I had a conflict with my AV program and another post it note
type program and this program was suggested. It works like a champ.
