I would prefer to not have the user account screen popup when turn on my
computer. I want to skip this password required step, moreover, when my
computer goes in the standby mode it now requires me to sign in with the
password again. This is getting time consuming and my computer goes in the
standby mode faster. Any help with these two related issues willl be
appreciated.

Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
In the "Users of this computer" box, click on the User you want
to have logged on automatically.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked on
earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account does
not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

As for your standby issue, go to Control Panel and double click
on Power Options.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Remove the check mark from the box next to "Prompt for password
when computer resumes from standby".
Check the Power Schemes page if you wish to change the time
when your PC goes into standby.

Good luck
