James

after uninstalling and re-installing several times,
running reg. cleaners between times, I keep finding that:

The MAS icon still doesnt sit in the tray.

When i go to look at "Real-time protection" it says the
checkpoints are active, but they persist in telling me
that they are inactive, and when i try to activiate them
they just do nothing

spyware scans seem ineffective - I run a scan of my PC
everyday using several different programmes and MAS
usually finds nothing where as the others do!

I think thats everything

someone help?

Sounds like you are running under a limited user account, try repairing in
an Administrator account. If the problem persist. uninstall Microsoft
AntiSpyware again, delete the install folder from c:\program files\Microsoft
AntiSpyware, download Microsoft AntiSpyware again, and install to a
non-default location such as c:\msas

It's not a problem with MSAS.

It's a long-standing and well documented bug in XP.

Logging off and logging back in will cause the icon,
along with a few others, to display in the systray.

Does'nt work for me. I am running under administrator. I
have follow instructions and reinstalled to different
directory. Have logged on and off and still the same.
When I install it everything is fine. I reboot and its
gone.

This is a well-known bug with Windows XP, and is nothing to do with any
problems in MSAS.

Just "Log Off" and "Log On" again to get the icons back.
