startup 2 versions of xp/get rid of one?

Have a friend call me, had a problem with a blue screen in windows xp.
Said something about check hd or something. I told her to write it down next
time.

When it starts up, it asks which version to use, and list two versions of
xp. Wondering if this is the problem. How do I get rid of one or the other?
or at least have it stop asking which one?>

Yes. Posting the complete error message would help.

You can remove the additional entry by editing the Boot.ini. See:

Removing the invalid entries from Boot.ini:

The above method may not help in some cases. If so, you may need to edit the boot.ini file manually. Visit the following links for more information:
