I am running XP Pro on a Gigabyte MB with an Athlon 1800+ and a gig of
memory. I have (2) 60 gig HDD with a RAID 0 configuration. When I fire her
up everything goes fine until I see the Win XP splashscreen, as it switches
to the password window the screen blacks out, the hard drives make a little
racket, a blue screen jumps out for a zillionth of a second and the process
is looped back to boot.

I tried the backup bios to no avail. I cleared the cmos and installed a new
battery. I took everything out of the case and reinstalled. I tried to
reinstall XP and boot from a backup disk---it doesn't find the hard drives.
I put in my Partition Magic boot disk and it says error 1516 Partition C
unproperly dismounted. Is there anyone out there in cyber land that can give
me an idea if this is a recoverable problem?

Thanks, Don

I have the exact same problem

I can run my computer in safe mode just fine, but I have this exact same problem when I try to boot normally.
I have tried doing a system restore, a system repair etc. My hard disk is being recognised (So I think that isn't your problem)...But I have no idea what to do I'm completely stumped

Hopefully somebody can help us both out here
Michael

I have distress signals in several different forums of which I have received
one reply from the Lockergnome forum. 'bigd' sent a link to symantec that
hasn't helped me so far but I'm still working on it---perhaps it will help
you. http://www.powerquest.com/support/primus/id4528.cfm My problem is that
I can't get into safe mode to be able to get to the command prompt so I can
run CHKDSK.

I Can get into safe mode - but when I run checkdisk it just says everything is working fine, so there is nothing Im really thinking that it must be something else because the problem with loading that you describe is exactly what I am getting too..

I am having the same problem. I have started with the CD, gone though the chkdsk, tried the repair mode, and it still will not come up. I am unable to boot into Safe Mode of any type. Last Known does not work. Virus?
