Starting XP in safe mode

I have a virus on my computer, and I've downloaded the
removal tool, but it needs to be restarted in safe mode.
The problem I have is that the virus has blocked the way
that you set the computer to restart in safe mode. I know
that you can put it into safe mode as the computer is
loading up, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Can anyone help?

Hmmm...
Not sure about your computer but.. it's usually just a question of hitting
the right Function Key during the boot.
Should be in your Manufacturer Manual that you got with your computer and
kept right? :-)
Maybe F6 or F8
Good luck

Usually F8 is the required key. Restart your PC and when the initial screen
(black system boot screen) appears start pressing F8 about once every
second - don't hold it down because this can cause the boot process to halt.
Stop pressing F8 when you see a list of options including, among others,
Safe Mode, Last known configuration that worked etc etc.

Cursor up to the Safe Mode selection and press ENTER.

Safe Mode should start.
