I have XP Home on FAT32. At times I use a diskette to get to DOS.
From DOS how can I start off XP Home? In Windows 98 I used to type
*Win* - what's the command for XP?
Thanks for any help.

Dehlia,
You won't be able to do that in Windows XP. With Windows 98, Windows was
more of a shell than an OS - the underlying operating system was still DOS,
which is why you could start your computer and use DOS without starting the
Windows shell.

In XP, Windows *is* the OS - it's not a shell anymore. Windows XP is based
on Windows NT, which doesn't have DOS as a supporting layer anymore.

If you boot your computer up with a DOS boot disk, the only way you'll be
able to start Windows is by rebooting your machine without the disk.

You reboot. No other way.
Why is it sad ?

habits die hard :)

I've lapped up the info and am grateful to all.
