Starting windows XP

hello

I have a pc running win XP PRO and since this afternoon When I boot all I
got is a screen without icons, the mouse and keyboard work but nothing else

In safe mode is runnig ok, what can I do?

Do a system restore to a point prior to the when the problem arose
