starting up

When I started my new computer, it gave me the option of registering two
separate log in names for my wife and I. How can I change that to make it
just one log in?

Careful each login is associated with an account

If that's the case, just go to Start-Control Panel-User Accounts and
delete
one of the two accounts. Then if you don't password protect the remaining
account, WindowsXP will go straight to the desktop when you boot up the
PC.
