About a week ago I installed an A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard with an AMD
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton CPU and a new ATI Radeon 9800 video card. I let
the computer run constantly for about 6 days and worked great. Last
night I turned the computer off and all was okay. This morning I turn
the computer on and the power comes on for about 3 or 4 seconds and
then shuts off. I disconnect all cables from motherboard and checked
everything in case. Looks good. I reconnect all cables and try again,
everything boots up just fine. So I run the computer right back down
again. Then try to start again. Same problem (shuts off after 3 or 4
seconds. I did this 3 times. Is this a power supply problem? Any help
would be appreciated. By the way, my computer is on now and I'm not
going to run it down again until I get some help. Thanks

Ist thing I would do is pull the power cord out and clear the CMOS and
then reset your desired BIOS settings. There may be corrupt data in the
BIOS that needs clearing.
Also your CMOS battery may be faulty. They are cheap to replace.

Is your HD a fresh install or a transplant from a Via chipset mobo?
If a transplant, may want to do a repair install of XP. What point does it
shut off? After you reached your desktop? Or after 3-4 secs after
restarting?

I cleared the CMOS and reset my Bios settings, but that did not seem
to work. But now I notice when I power down the system and go to turn
it back on, if I hit the power button once and it does nothing, then I
press it the second time, it will boot up fine. But if I power down
the system and when I hit the power to turn it back on and it starts
up on the first push of the power button, that is when it shuts off
after 3-4 secs. Also, now I've figured out that after I have the
problem of shutting off after 3-4 secs, if I unplug the power cord
from the back of the computer for about 5 secs and plug it back in, it
will start up just fine. But I would rather not have to do that on a
regular basis. Thanks for your suggestion. Any more suggestions would
be appreciated. I'm still wondering if it may be the power supply.

It is a fresh install of Windows XP and it shuts off 3-4 secs after restarting.

Try this.Xp has a silly,"Shutdown on Errors" option.
My computer/Right click/Properties/Advanced/Startup and Recovery and
disable the SOE option.
Then clear and use the Event log in the Control Panel/Administritive
tools and then se if you can track a fault to give you a clue.

This could be off-the-wall but I had a similar problem with an ABIT
mobo. I cured it by raising the core voltage and the I/O voltage on
notch. I have no idea why that worked. Another possibility is a faulty
fan. If the tachometer is not working properly the chip set will shut
it down. A third possibility is a marginal power supply.

I'm having some troubles with an A78X Deluxe Motherboard with an XP
3000+. When I reboot then system (warn boot) everything is ok, but
when i shutdown and then turn on (cold boot), it shuts off after 3 or
4 seconds. If I try to turn it on again, it's ok, but starts at
different speed (XP 1300), probably for protecting CPU, and BIOS
complain about an unexpected shutdown. I think we're having similar
troubles.

I have tried another Power Suply and it's all the same.
I have found that if I change FSB from 166 to 133 or less, the system
runs ok.

Is there anybody having similar problems with this mobo?

I'm going to find out if it was the power supply, because I've ordered
a new power supply and it should be here any day. So I'll let you
know if I have the same problem after replacing the power supply.
Please let me know if you figure out what it is. Thanks

I believe I figured out what the problem was. It was not the power
supply. My brother had told me when I first had this problem to take
out my 256 MB memory stick(PC2100) because I also have a 512 MB Memory
stick(PC2700). So before I changed my power supply which I have
already bought, I took out the 256 MB Memory stick(PC2100) and have
now shut down and restarted my computer 8 times and it has worked so
far. So I guess the conflict of the 2 memory speeds, PC2100 at 133 Mhz
and PC2700 at 166 Mhz was causing the problem. Thanks for everyones
help.
