Starting IE7 by clicking onto links in other programs takes longer and longer...

Since a few weeks I have the more and more annoying behavior here, that
starting IE7 from within another program (i.e. by clicking onto a link,
e.g. in an email or in a PDF or a word file) takes "forever".

Initially this opened IE7 almost instantaneous, then - a few weeks ago -
this suddenly took like 10 seconds or so until the browser showed up and
since then things seems to get worse and worse every day. It now takes
between 30-60(!) seconds until the browser finally shows up and more
than once it already happened, that by the time when the browser finally
opened I already had forgotten, why I had clicked that link and what I
wanted here... :-(

Strange enough, starting the browser by clicking its desktop- or
quickstart-icon works as it always did and opens it immediately and so I
have more and more get used again, to when I want to open a URL from
another program to not simply click on it, but rather copy it onto the
clipboard, fire up the browser and paste it into the address bar. This
works as fast as it always did, but is of course this is most annoying
and inconvenient.

What can cause these enourmous delays when starting IE from within
another program???

Try running IE with no add-ons. If that solves the issue then you know
that an add-on you've installed isn't playing nice with IE.

Perhaps your file cache is full and it is spending extra time
deleting old cached files to make room for more? Clicking on a link
usually incurs transfering a new file or link to your computer
whereas starting IE by itself may just bring up a page that is
already cached and no cache cleaning is required.

Try deleting the Temporary Files.
Tools->Internet Options->General Tab->Browsing History->Delete->
Temporary Internet Files

For a test I disabled ALL but - alas - no improvement. :-(

I deleted all temp. files, but no improvement. BTW: is it normal, that
this takes almost two minutes?

I am starting to get the impression, that there are certain operations
in IE that take so long, while others don't.
Would be interesting to find out, what the common denominator of those
is. Maybe that would provide a clue, where things hang...

Post your question in the IE newsgroup, where you'll get the attention
of IE experts:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

I'm sorry I was unable to help you.
