I hope someone can help me with this problem. I would
like to start my Internet Explorer screen maximized as I
do with Netscape. However, so far I have been unable to
discover how to do this. I have the IE6 browser. Would
appreciate any assistance in this.

Thanks very much

Please don't think me crazy but I was able to get it to
open maximized by closing it maximized. But believe me I
have tried this in the past to no avail.

Try opening your Browser (IE) and manually dragging the window to fit the
screen; DO NOT use maximize. Close IE. Re-open IE; it should remember the
size.

As an alternative:

Right click the Launch IE icon>Properties>Run dropdown
menu>Maximized>Apply>OK out.

90% chance it won't stick. If it does.... "well.... something new has been
added".

Hi bt_runner :-)

In the event your current cure does not hold, in addition to the excellent
instructions by LuckyStrike to correct this problem, you might also try the
following:

Resizing Screen (Window) in IE

In the last window to be closed only, pass the cursor over the right side of
the screen until you get a two ended arrow <---> (Do not use Maximize), then
hold the left mouse button down and drag the edge of the screen to the right
as far as you want it. Then do the same on all the other sides until it
fills the screen.

Use the "launch IE Browser" shortcut, you can R-click>properties>run
Maximized>apply>OK out. That works as well.

How to resize small windows

Note for Internet Explorer Users: The latest explorer seems to open all
subsequent windows into a "small size", which you must then maximize or
enlarge. I found a fix for this searching the Usenet newsgroups.:

Start IE, right click any URL and select Open in a New Window.
Go back to the first IE window you opened and close it.
Return to the second window and manually drag it to fill the screen.
(Do not use the maximize button)
Close this second window, using the close box.
All IE5 windows should now open as maximized as you positioned your second
window.

Window resizing problems seem to be rather widespread for some folks with XP
who have installed the SP2. Hopefully, you have found a solid cure for your
problem. :-)

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Yeah, I have been so darned busy at work I am finding it hard to get other
stuff done. Unfortunately I am one of those people who has to work (say) a
page or a section in one sitting, if I try doing it in bits and pieces it
comes out garbage, so unless I have time to do things in one sitting I never
seem to get started <g>

It's played hell with my MVP'ing and it's amazing how quickly one gets out
of touch with "Current" problems.

Also, and I don't know if this means I am lucky or I got a broken version of
SP2 but since installing SP2 I have not had a single problem to practice on!

There again, and it may be the real reason, the original installation was
"Clean", it was a genuine Microsoft package and not something OEMs had
"Fiddled" with, and there were no "Nasties" present before the update. My
feeling is that some of the problems blamed on SP2 are due to the fact that
it stops some of these invisible :"Nasties" working and thus appears to
cause the problem. I had previously used 2000 Advanced Server (because I had
it - not as a proper server) and that too was similarly reliable. Where I'm
struggling at the moment is because most of the "New" problems posted here
could have multiple causes and unfortunately I can't guarantee to get back
and follow up.

Glad you found the time to re-do this page though. It isn't necessarily the
size of the project, but more of an issue of fitting things into a rather
constrained allotment of available time. Now..., what is really needed is a
"find me the time" program! <vbg>

I'd agree with your assessment that a little prep work would go a long way
in pre-empting a lot of the problems "associated" with installing SP2.
There's some sort of Maxim to that effect, but it escapes me for the moment.
I'm sure you know which one I mean. <s> At any rate, the "warnings"
regarding the install of SP2 and the requirements for a clean environment
are probably not being heeded in the majority of cases. Pity.
