Starting and keeping multiple screens of IE6 open

Question: How do I create and keep open multiple screens with IE6 so as to be
able to move from one Web site to another without shutting the IE windows.

Right now I can only create ONE IE6 screen to use for navigating. Before I
was able to keep two or many more open, tile them, cascade them and move from
one to another. Some settings got changed and I cannot figure out which.

Often, with ONE screen up, I will go to a link (even here) and not be able
to get back to the original screen without closing IE6 inadvertantly or
deliberately.

Go to Control Panel and double click Internet Options.
Click on the Advanced tab.
In the Settings box, remove the check mark from the box next to
"Reuse windows to launch shortcuts".
Click OK.

Good luck

I tried that and various ways to open a window with a new Web site. The
original open window simply closes and the new one takes its place. The
setting you told me about was checked and I did uncheck it and restarted. The
box is still unchecked.

I still need an answer to this problem. Thank you.

What happens when you right a link and select "Open in New
Window" from the menu? How about when you hold down the shift
key when clicking on the link?

Since you say that you were able to open up multiple IE windows
once then it becomes a question of what's different now. Have
you installed any IE add-ons recently? Installed any IE
toolbars such as Yahoo's or Google's? If so, try uninstalling
them and see if this solves the problem. Installed any pop-up
blockers? You might want to disable them and see if that's the
source of your problem.

Have you cleared out the temporary internet files folder
lately?

The only other suggestion I've got is that if you haven't done
so already, you might want to post this question to an Internet
Explorer newsgroup. You may have better luck there getting a
solution.

Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer are often "intertwined" - you can
browse the internet or local files from either interface. Because of this,
you might want to try disabling the "same window" option for Windows
Explorer too (setting is in Folder Options> View).

NOTE: When clicking on links at a web site, I often use the right click
option "open in new window" That one always works for me.

Thanks everyone. I just kept trying with your new suggestions and eventually
IE was fixed, or at least back where I wanted. Now the windows minimize when
I bring up or create a new window. That is usually OK as I know where
everything is and can bring it up on the screen.

If anyone else has this problem I found it to be that I was having conflicts
with my pop-up blockers. I had one on from sbc mail account along with
recently installed ie7. I turned off sbc and problem solved.
