I need a bit of help networking 2 computers together. I
have installed A Realteck 10/100 Ethernet card in each
computer and have the RJ-45 wire connecting the two, and
also a cross-over wire and patch cable ready just incase
they are needed.

I'm having problems almost straight away, as there is a
cross to the left of the Realteck ethernet card on the
Network Connection Wizard.

What is the best way to go about getting these 2
computers set-up?

Best Regards,

Bob D.

We have a crossover cable connected to each card, but it
is having no apparent affect.

How do we go about getting he computers to detect this
connection/realise it is plugged in (when we try the home
networking wizard, it says the Ethernet cards/connection
are unplugged.)

Since both computers say that the network connections are unplugged,
I'd say that you don't have a properly wired crossover cable.

A regular Ethernet cable runs the wires straight through between the
ends to connect a computer to a hub or switch.

A crossover Ethernet cable reverses the transmit and receive wires
between the ends to allow two computers to connect directly to each
other.

Hold the ends of the cable together in the same orientation. A
regular cable will have the same wire colors in the same order on both
ends. A crossover cable won't.
