After my XP starts up my "dial-up connection" box automatically appears on
the monitor.
Anyone know what may be the cause and possible corrective action?

Bob,
If you Shut Down your computer (turn off) it is going to show you this
dialog box upon start up do it is looking for a connection to the Internet.
"Example" your phone, when you pick it up you hear a dial tone(it's looking
for your connection)you dial your friends phone number,(that's your
connection)...
That is what that dialog box is that you see, So corrective action would be
to click on a box that says connect / establish.
As a bottom note you might consider leaving your system "ON" at all times do
to it can perform it's duties as "Scheduled Task" and keep your "Live
Updates" up to current...
I have another system not to mention this one that has been "On" for 3
years, Only turning "OFF" if I plan to be gone for a week or better, with the
exception of ocassional Re-Boots...

For the purpose of clarification, I know what the "dial up connection" box
function is. My question is, how can I eliminate this from showing up every
time I boot-up? My previous version of windows did not show this box until
prompted to, I can only assume that this is possible with XP also.
Best regards,
Bob

Bob,
You will have to go;
Start / Run / msconfig
in the Start Up tab clear the box which applies to your Dial Up connection...
Be aware you are going to be hit with another dialog box when Re-Booting
that states "you have chose a selective start up" click here to proceed...
You are up against a wall here...
