I'm new to XP, had 98 before. This SHOULD be so simple to
cure, and yet, despite doing everything I know should
work, I can't stop the BT Yahoo Broadband folder from
boing open on my desktop when I switch on my PC.
I've been into Start Up, Re-arranging etc., what really
obvious step am I missing.
Erika.

You might have to a bit of work in the registry. Try this

Go to Start->Run and type Regedit then click OK. Now navigate your way to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look for the folder in question. If listed, double click the entry and put
quote marks ( " ) at both ends.

see my example below and how the quote marks are at the beginning and end of
the location. Do the same for your BT Yahoo Broadband folder if it is
listed.

"C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework\UpdaterUI.exe"
