We are using a compac pc for music recording only. When
we reboot, it takes sometimes up to 4 hours or so to boot
up. The windows xp start up logo comes on, then black
screen with a flashing white dash in the upper left
corner. Is this a bios issue, windows xp issue, or what?
HELP PLEASE!

Wow.. 4 hours is extreme. I would check to see if your harddrive is full, and how fragmented it is but it sounds like a reinstall might help you. Also I would check to see if your system meets the requirements for XP, check the hardware to see if it is supported by XP. Dunno what else but I have worked with xp a long time and never heard of anything like it.

Thanks for the reply, It's a "music only" pc, so It's
not connected to the www, also he (my partner) said he
was told not to defragment a music pc... might misplace
audio files(?) Mabey a windows update issue? anyway,
thanks for the help!
