When I switch my computer on, the Pentium Intel Logo stays
on the screen for about 5 min before I get connected to
Windows XP. After running through all the check's, I don;t
get the Welcome\screen from XP. I have done a Checkdisk
and defragmentation, succesfully with no problems. The
virusscan is also OK.
Please help!!!

Christa,

One thing comes to mind. Any chance your network is setup to "Obtain
an IP address automatically", and you don't have a DHCP server on your
network? I've seen cases where it takes many minutes for the computer
to startup under those conditions - the computer sits waiting for a
DHCP server to respond with an address for it.

Check your Event Log - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event
Viewer - to see if the system is logging anything during startup.

If no joy from those suggestions, consider a spyware scan. Do you
have updated spyware protection too? I'd sooner drive my car without
brakes than not have both. Get Spybot S&D and HijackThis, with help
from SWI Forums (free). Start here:
