I have a single XP machine, one user (me) and no network, workgroup or fax .
I don't use Messenger or Netmeeting
Please expand to full screen (format)
In msconfig, there's these entries in Start-up -

Startup Item Command Location

(Blank space) (Blank space) SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows.

De-selecting this, pressing "apply", then re-booting - system re-boots in
diagnostic mode.
Selecting "normal" mode (re-boot) - this start-up item comes back selected.

Questions
1/ How to delete from Start-up list, permanently ?
2/ How to Start-up (routinely) without all the unwanted processes running
(39 items!!)
... no wonder the system is slowing down !!!
Appreciate guidance LEN

Len,

First, don't select Normal mode. When you do that, it puts everything back. To remove the entries from Startup, look in the following locations:

Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Then in the Registry (click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Thanks Doug - will attempt this. Len
