I used to have "search" & "my computer" and some other
items on the right side of the window when I clicked in
the start menu. Now all I have is "Help and Support".
What did I do and how can I get these settings back?
THANKD

Right click on the Start button and select Properties. This will bring
up the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. On the Start Menu tab click
the Customize button. This will bring up the Customize Start Menu tabs.
go to the Advanced tab. In the list of Start menu items you can
choose how each item is displayed, if at all. For My Computer you can
choose Display as link. For Search just make sure there is a check next
to that item. Modify the appearance of other items as you see fit.

I also have the almost the same problem. I performed a Quick Restore on my
Computer last week, then itstalled the XP Upgrade and I have noticed that on
the right hand side of the Start Menu there used to be Set Program Access and
Defaults and it is gone. Can anyone tell me how to put it back on the right
side. I know how to put it on the left side, but I would like it back on the
other side.

I also noticed that when I go to the Control Panel to Set Program Access and
Defaults an error pops up cannot fine a certain .dll this used to work before
I restored my computer last week. What happened.

Did your computer ship with the original version of XP or with XP+Service
Pack 1? If it shipped with the original XP, service packs and updates
needed to be reinstalled.

Service Pack 1 added the Set Program Access functions. Service Pack 2 is
now available. Includes all of the updates from Service Pack 1 and then
some.

My Computer is a Windows Me. I Upgraded to XP. I have a my SP already
installed on my Computer. I keep getting an error. msgsc.dll could not be
found under program files.

You already have a SP but did you install it before or after running the
reinstall? The service pack needs to be reinstalled as well as the
operating system.

After reinstalling the service pack, it will add back the Set Programs
Access. "msgc.dll" is a file from Windows Messenger. It was revised with
the Service Packs as well.

If you continue to get the error after reinstalling the service pack,
locate the copy of msgmc.dll in the ...\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\
folder. Copy it to the ..\Program Files\Messenger\ folder. If asked if you
want to overwrite an existing file, answer yes.
