I got a PC, a Compaq Presarios, that's a few years old, and originally haf
problems doing this. But after updating the BIOS, I was able to use a few
free utilities that allowed me to "hibernate" the PC at times that I
schedule.
- I downloaded utilities like "pwroff30" and "winoff25", and followed the
directions.
- For wakeup, I simply scheduled a job to run, basically a nonsense DOS
batch file in the scheduled task that tupes out something. I don't need any
utlility for this. This is done under the "setting" tab, bottom panel, "power
management", and click on "wake up the PC to run this job".
- For "hibernation", I use the scheduler to run from one of the utilities. I
have the PC wakeup at 5:00AM each morning to run antivirus scans, do backups,
and hibernate again at 6:30AM.
I can also do this via standby as well, besides "hibernation", but with a
regular shutdown, I can't wake the PC up.
