I have a Dell computer and it recently started poping up the Dell Programs
folder when I restart. It isn't listed in the System Explorers/Startup
Programs. How do I stop it from popping up?

Hi Kris,

D/L and install WinPatrol:
http://www.winpatrol.com
WinPatrol provides powerful innovative functionality of two programs.
As a malware monitor WinPatrol will alert you to any hijacking and critical
changes made to your computer without your permission.
As an all purpose utility WinPatrol allows you to explore deep into your
system and helps you understand what programs are installed and why.

Startup Manager allows you to optimize your boot up process helping to
disable those un-needed programs which just slow you down.

I hope this post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.

Can you list what programs are popping-up?

I tried that, but it still is not showing the folder that is popping up as
one of the start-up programs. I checked all of the Dell items that were on
the list, and they are all legit programs. What is popping up is just the
screen showing what sub-folders my Dell folder contains (like when you
"explore" the folders). Let me know if you have any other suggestions.
Thanks!!

The items from Dell that are shown on the Start-up programs list are: Dell
Support - DSAgmt/exe/startup; and DellMCM - memcard.exe and one that I know
is for my printer. It is not a program that I am having problems with. It
is just the folder that is popping up. Thanks for your help!

I believe you are seeing an OS bug--possibly not so much a bug as an
unanticipated side effect--similar to the one described at the URL I posted
elsewhere in the thread.

If you've checked on that registry issue, and it hasn't helped, let me
know--this is an XP issue, rather than an antispyware issue--and we may need
some outside help, although Jim Byrd who is here sometimes may well know.

I did check out the registry issue that you suggested and it did not fix
anything. I greatly appreciate all your help!!

Can you give the complete pathname of the folder that opens?

(example: c:\Dell Programs)

And I had thought that an audit of startup entries wouldn't catch this
one--it appears I was wrong, and it might have--had we both been sharp
enough to spot the missing quotes around a path with spaces in it.

(all assuming this matches your issue!)
