Hi there,
When i start up my pc after it goes through its POST and checks the memory
it comes up saying

WARNING! CPU Have Over Speed

and does not go any further.

Could someone tell me what this is and how do i remedy it.

Thanks,

Hi,

Sounds like it is overclocked. Hit the appropriate key to enter setup and
reset it to defaults.

Sounds like the CPU is overclocked too far. If the system stays up long
enough, you could try entering the BIOS setup screens and restore the
default settings. These are on the conservative side and should get you
running again. Save changes and exit the BIOS setup screens and let Windows
continue to boot. Then go find the motherboard manual or search it out
online and review the settings needed to run your CPU on that board without
getting that message.

If you continue to have trouble, consult the manufacturer of the
motherboard. Many have online user forums at their sites where you can get
advice on settings from other owners of the same or similar hardware. A few
even have official moderators to guide you.

P.O.S.T. (Power On Self Test) is done by the motherboard and the BIOS before
information is ever read from the hard drive. It has nothing to do with
Windows.
Try posting in a hardware newsgroup like alt.comp.hardware.overclocking.
But I strongly suggest you read the manual for your motherboard or computer
before you post - the answer should be there. The BIOS settings for the
clock speed are set higher than the specifications of your CPU.

Hii if u are unable to boot at all then unplug the pc and remove the cmos
battery this will set back ur cpu to original state. remember to do this
only as a last resort as any bios updates (flashing) u might have done
previously will be lost.

Hope this helps..,

Meant to add too that if you are unable to stay up long enough to enter the
BIOS, there is usually a jumper on the motherboard that will allow you to
clear the CMOS. This will reset the BIOS to defaults, check the motherboard
manual for its location.
