Start Up Problems

Here is a funny one:
More often than not when I start my XP pro pc, it freezes up on the splash
screen.
I will then have to restart on safe mode, delete all the files in my
prefetch folder and restart the pc.
Once I do that, it is fine until the next day, when I have to repeat the
above process.
Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this?
Thanks.

Same here but I am running WinXP Home NTFS. I have WinXP Home FAT32 set up on another drive and this doesn't happen. It seems that about when the start-up gets to the point where it would detect my keyboard it freezes up. Any ideas? The only thing I have done differently recently is get DSL (and of corse I got the Blaster Worm, but fixed it). I thought it may be do to a recently installed update but all I installed this time, after the 500th reformat, is SP1.
