To whom this may concern;

I own a HP Pavilions computer with Windows XP, and I have
some problems when I start up.

After selecting my user name at start up, two boxes apear
on my screen at two differnt times. One is a rectangle
shaped box that reads: "svchost.exe has encountered a
problem and needs to close." The other box is a one inch
by one inch square and all it has in it is a large red
dot with an x in the middle of it.

How do I make these boxes, and any other boxes, stop
showing up at start up?

In a related problem, I used to be able to get instant
online support from HP until just recently. The
technicians were helping me with similar problems like
the ones above. The last online technician I had was
helping me to keep the HP Help icon from appearing in my
tool bar everytime I start up. I only wanted it to
appear there whenever I needed help and selected it.
Unfortunately, the instructions that the technician sent
me caused me to lose my instant online support feature
completely. How do I get that back?

I will be back in approximately 24 hours to see if there
are any replies.

Thank you.

Try the system file checker tool. Click start, run, and
type in this here; "sfc /scannow" with that space after
the sfc. It will ask for your XP CD to copy any needed
files from, and it runs as Windows file Protection. If
you don't have a XP CD, try to borrow one from someone.
When system files become corrupt, this can be caused by
faulty RAM, ( bad memory ), so I suggest running a test
using a diagnostic utility.
