After the last set of Critical and XP updates I am unable
to open applications through the desk top icons if I do
not open the Task Manager via Ctrl-Alt-Delete and then
close the window. Once I've done this, everything runs
fine. Computer is clean (if this is possible), of all
known spyware, ad-ware, etc.

Any helpful suggestions?

Thanks!

I see my inquiry posted but how do I determine if anyone has actually seen
the request?

I see it (both presumably or are you the poster at the top of the thread?).
Assuming so, there's no easy answer since taskmgr doesn't do anything to
'cure' an issue when used as was stated. There may be other factors that
come into play but nothing directly related to taskmgr.

What are you using to determine the machine is clean?
