Windows 2000 will not start up. Instead I get the
following message:
Windows 2000 could not start up because of a
computer disc hardware configuration problem. Could not
read from the selected boot disc. Check boot path and
disc hardware.
I am not trying to boot from a floppy or from my cd
rom. I'm just trying to boot as normal. I installed a
boot manager program on my laptop. I don't know if this
is the cause of my problem, but the problem occured the
first time that I restarted my computer after installing
the boot manager program. Thanks for any help.

Yes I suspect this is caused by the boot manager. You will get this
message if the boot.ini points to a partition that does not exist. You
can boot from a boot floppy into Windows and then correct or uninstall
the boot manager.

On another Windows 2000 system do a full format of a floppy.
Copy Ntldr, Ntdetect.com and Boot.ini from C to the floppy.
If necessary edit the Boot.ini to point to correct partition.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Pro" /fastdetect
