Hi there,

I seemed to have lost my start up menu. I have been reading lots of posts
about holding down the shift key when opening the database or using the F11
button. I have tried both of these, and I still can't get at the start up
menu. I am using someone elses database with lots of security. Is it
possible that the shift key and the F11 trick could have been disabled
somehow? Is there something else I could try?

Thanks,
Julie

I am not sure what you mean by lots of security? Are you talking workgroup
security?

Obviously you state that you messed up your settings, so, logic dictates
that you WERE able to change this!!!

If you messed up your settings, you can create a blank mdb, and import the
stuff from the old file.

The import DOES NOT import the start-up options (this is a good, or bad
thing depending on who you talk to).

You also might not be using the shift key right. The way I do this is
highlight the mdb file in the windows explorer.

I then use my left hand, and press down the shift key. Keep this key down
during the WHOLE process. You then with your right had tap the enter
key..but continue to hold down that shift key. When the appcation is
complete finished loading, you can then release the shift key. This should
by-pass the menu start-ups

When I first tried to bypass the startup settings and get to the db window, I
was opening the db from the "tasks" pane on the right side of the screen.
I'm doubt that matters, other than I think it led me to believe that I needed
to hold the shift key down while I clicked on the db in the list in that task
pane.

It turns out that, at least in my case, the only time I really needed to
have the shift key pressed is when I hit the "open" button on the security
window popup that comes up right after picking the db from the list. It
makes sense now, but seemed odd at the time.

Doubt that will help, but take it for what it's worth.
