Windows operating systems before XP always simply allowed you to drop in a
program, or check a program to go into the statup menu.

How do you add a program and delete a program to the start menu in Windows XP?

Thanks - anyone

Go to Start Menu -> All Programs and right click on Startup.
If you want the program to open when anyone logs on select
"Open All Users" from the menu. If you want the program to
start just for the currently logged on user select Open.
Drag and drop a shortcut to the appropriate program into this
folder.

The folders are located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\(InsertUserNameHere)\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup

Hi Nepatsfan

Wrote you a thank you earlier, separate from this listing, as I did not
realize that this is similar to emailing. So, refound this entry, and thought
I would thank you for your quick response to my request. All's fine
Thanks

David,

I caught your reply in the General newsgroup. Here's what I
posted in response:

Glad to hear my suggestion helped with your Start Menu problem.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know.

FYI, if you're planning on using these newsgroups as a resource
for computer help then you might want to familiarize yourself
with how to access them through a newsreader such as Outlook
Express or Mozilla Thunderbird. Both of these programs do a
much better job of keeping track of your questions and the
responses to them than the Microsoft web interface. Here are a
couple of web sites that explain how to get started using
Outlook Express:

Windows XP Newsgroup Setup Instructions for Outlook Express

Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader

Good luck
