I have a HP Pavilion 7965 with XP Home on a 60GB Seagate HD the system is
under two years old, I removed the HP XP Home Edition and the hidden
Partition and bought a new XP Home Edition because I wanted full use of the
60GB Drive and I did not want all the stuff put on by HP. Everything works
well and has done for the last couple of months. The last week I have one
problem when starting the machine up in the morning, it will hang on the
POST screen and just sit there doing nothing and the Hard Drive light stays
on constant. I switch off and restart and it will go past the post screen
and Freeze on a black screen. I switch off and start again and it will boot
up no problem. because it is still under extended warranty I had them out
and they replaced the asus motherboard with a new one only two days
ago(12/11/) but again this morning I had the very same problem starting
again. Does anyone know if this could be related to a Power Supply Going
Faulty or A Hard Drive Starting to fail. This machine has the AMD
1800+Athlon 1GB PC2100RAM. NVIDIA GeForce2MX-400 (Which has the latest
Drivers) New ASUS Motherboard. CD-RW. DVD.ROM. The tech that came out to
replace the motherboard did not know what the cause was, so it may end up
with me having to get them back out and who knows what else they will
replace.
