I have windows xp SP2. In past months I have been getting a number of
different errors on start up that result in auto reboot. Originally the
problem started with a print spooler error. That was eventually corrected.
Since then everything has gone downhill.

The most consistent notifications are

1: Device driver failure.
2] Service control manager – application management service terminated -
specified file couldn’t be found.
3] faultrep error.
4] usernev - unloading of user information UPH.
5] W32time error
6] Loss of kernels.
7] Hardware failure.

These occur every time on reboot from overnight shutdown and do vary from
day to day. On average it takes four restarts. It does not help to reboot in
safe mode or last best configuration as the system shuts down and reboots.

The reboot can take place within 5 seconds before logon or at least five
minutes after logon or just before the logon screen appears.

Once this occurs even if I see a recovery notice the system will shutdown
and reboot but not every time. Once the system has recovered I can restart as
many times as I wish without errors.

However if I switch off the computer for more that twenty minutes the
problems start all over again but with a different set of problems as
originally recorded. i.e. firsts start up error may be device driver problems
or fault bucket the second, On recovery the event log will show service
control manager error.

The one consistent problem is that of task manager. The screen pops up ever
time on restart telling me that services have been missed. Try as I might I
cannot get that corrected. I never used a password to login at set up so that
may be the problem.

I have done the following:

Checked all program and hardware drivers for possible errors and updated
where possible.

Tried to restore from an earlier date on a day that i was sure that all was
well.

Downloaded and a used the program Auto runs, unchecked start up drivers that
windows cannot find or service that are not important.

I have used sfc/scannow and did the necessary.

Used checkdsk and done HD scans. Everything is fine. Tried to find error in
the registry and configuration. Done a hd health test.

Used windows recommended virus and malware services in case AVG did not pick
up the problem.

If I restart from the recovery settings that works then all is fine with no
error showing in the Error logs or Dr Watson. In case it may be a capacitor
or other problem as we live in a high humidity area I have on start-up
entered the bios and let the system “warm Up†this work one day but who is
too say that it was this.

I have tried every suggestion made in this forum but to no avail.

What suggestions?????
Thank you
Regards Hugh

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of

Okay will do. I forgot to mention that I did load the UPH cleaner until the
EXE file got lost during the many restarts and restores to an earlier date.
never was able to find it again nor reinstall the programe. I eventually
stopped it using the autorun program. I am happy to copy paste the event log.
I assume the most common errors will help.

All is working again. Must have been a bad connection.
