Hi,
Hope someone can help with a weird problem, I've only just
noticed that whenever i start or shut down windows it no
longer plays the sounds i have assigned. The sound files
are fine and had worked only a few days ago and still work
as i can play the files fine myself, all other sounds work
automatically as they should and nothing else is affected,
even games are fine. I've tried to change the sounds to
other .wav files and changed all my windows sounds back to
the defaults but still the startup and shutdown sounds do
not play, i dont beleive this is a soundcard fault as
everything else is fine, no conflicts, no changes to files
or audio codex, no virus, nothing every other peice of
media is fine and as i say all other sounds play as they
should (recycle bin empty, navigation complete ect) It's
all very Strange.
My OS is Windows XP Pro updated to SP2 and all other files
from windows update, soundcard is SBLive! all drivers are
upto date, hardware and bios settings are normal and have
not been touched (i am only user of this PC).
Any help, thoughts or insite would be truely appreciated.

Which event did you reassign the sounds to?

Try using Exit Windows and Start Windows and not the
Windows logon and Logoff sounds.

Hi Robert,

Startup Sounds are missing:

TweakUI/General/Beep on errors (verify that the box is checked).
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

System Sounds are missing:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: HKEY_USERS. If it doesn't
have a Data entry in the right pane that reads: (value not set), double
click (Default) and delete it. If it does, check your HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21
keys for the same.

In the right pane, right click the word (Default) and choose Delete. If
anything was listed under Value Data, it will be replaced immediately to
Default settings and your sound should be restored after a reboot.

Thanks for the help, I already had Tweak Ui installed and
the beep on errors box was ticked previous but when i
checked it it had become unticked, so putting the tick
back in fixed the sounds again. I never even thought to
check through tweak UI.
Again Thanks very much for your help.
Robert.
