I think i might have made some mistake in updating the
prefix in
the registry because my IE wasnt working for URL's if i
didnt
give the "http://" prefix before the web address in
address bar.

SO i updated the value in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\URL\Defaultprefix
to "http://"

since then everytime i run an executable windows seems to
attach http:// path to it so it tries to run in IE.
This includes regedit. If i do start:run:regedit it goes
to IE and tries the address http://C/Winnt/regedit.

None of the other executables works either they all have
http:// prefix attached to it.

How can i get out of this problem ?

I'm in exactly the same boat. I edited the same registry line, and the same
thing happened to me. In order to re-edit the registry, I had to go in
through a DOS prompt and ran regedit. Set default values to blank, but I'm
still having problems.

When I Start, Run, I get a message that says "Problem with shortcut. This
Internet shortcut cannot be opened because failed to run."
Yes, there is a space between "because" and "failed" There is nothing in
the popup box. to say what.

I also have a problem on boot up, with a Synchronization problem as well as
my Nvidia card control panel. I also have a screwed up IE and OE too.

HELP!!!

Runnin windows 2000 prof

I also cannot run most of my control panel applets. Message comes up saying
"Cannot find the file 'rundll32.exe (or one of its components). Make sure
the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available."

The rundll32.exe file is in Winnt/System32/ I even extracted a fresh
version. Still no luck. Man, why did I screw around!!

with UltraWin Cleaner 2002 and EasyClean from Toni Arts. I even tried
reinstalling Win2kPro overtop, and no luck.

Still no luck. Man, why did I screw around!! HELP!!!

No, I'm pretty sure I didn't. Not reflected like that under File Types.
Maybe a Registry entry??

I think it has something to do with the Prefix entry in
the registry. I had set it to "http://" thats when the
problem started happening.
Now how do i edit the registry if i am not able to run
regedit ?

You can open a DOS window to a c:> regedit. You could also boot to DOS.
Press F8 while Win2K is booting and it will give you boot options.

I did that and restored the prefix to a blank, at least that's what I think
it was before. I cannot run any of my control panel applets by
doubleclicking on them. That's when I get the rundll32 error message. I
did manage to figure out how to run the applets from a DOS window. For
example, open a DOS window and at the prompt type "control.exe desk.cpl"
(without the quotes) . That will take you to the display properties
dialogue box.

Jim Boyd - any suggestions????
